The Economic Cooperation Organization Cultural Institute has presented the sixth issue of its specialized magazine “ECONAME.” The main theme of this edition is the unique overlap of two major celebrations — the holy month of Ramadan and the spring festival of Nowruz.
Titled “Shared Traditions of Ramadan and Nowruz,” the issue offers readers an in-depth exploration of the cultural code of the 10 member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization. It examines how spiritual values of fasting intertwine with centuries-old traditions of welcoming spring.
Journey along the Silk Road
On the pages of the magazine, authors present both visual and analytical insights into traditions:
• From Istanbul to Lahore: traditions of preparing iftar tables and hospitality across regions.
• From Dushanbe to Mazar-i-Sharif: the ritual preparation of the traditional dish “sumalak” (samanu) and the rhythms of folk celebrations.
• Unity in diversity: how shared roots bring together the peoples of the region, creating a unique atmosphere along the Great Silk Road.
