A new, large-scale phase of development of the super-giant Galkynysh gas field has begun in Turkmenistan. At a government meeting on Friday, March 20, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree under which the state-owned Turkmengas concern will enter into a contract with the Chinese company CNPC Amudarya Petroleum Company Ltd.
The contract provides for the design and construction of turnkey facilities as part of Phase 4 of the field's development. The key goal is the annual production of 10 billion cubic meters of marketable gas. The project also includes drilling and equipping the production wells necessary to ensure this production volume.
The preparation of the document is a direct result of the recent visit of National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to China. As the head of state noted at a Cabinet meeting, the implementation of this project will significantly increase the export potential of the country's energy sector, create numerous new jobs, and provide a powerful impetus to the strategic Turkmen-Chinese partnership.
The President emphasized that the agreements reached in Beijing take cooperation in the oil and gas sector to a new level, ensuring long-term stability of energy supplies.
