Microsoft Corporation has officially announced the appointment of Gabriela Popescu as Regional Manager responsible for Romania, Moldova, and the countries of Central Asia. The decision signals the technology giant’s growing focus on the region’s digital market.
Focus on Artificial intelligence and Cloud technologies
Gabriela Popescu, who previously headed Microsoft’s legal department in Central and Eastern Europe, assumes her new role with a clear mandate: to accelerate digital transformation through the adoption of cloud technologies and responsible artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Microsoft, the primary objective of the new leadership will be to help both public and private sectors use AI to enhance their global competitiveness. For Turkmenistan, which is implementing the concept of “smart cities” and digital public services, this opens new opportunities in cybersecurity and data standardization.
Technology as a driver of economic growth
“We are on the threshold of a new era in which cloud technologies and AI will become the foundation of economic growth,” Ms. Popescu noted. Microsoft emphasizes that its activities in Central Asia will focus on three key areas:
• Digital education: training local specialists to work with advanced technologies.
• Public sector: implementing scalable cloud solutions to increase transparency and efficiency.
• Innovation ecosystems: supporting local startups and IT companies.
What Does This Mean for the Region?
The appointment of a top executive with deep expertise in law and compliance highlights Microsoft’s intention not only to expand sales in Central Asia but also to build a sustainable legal environment for the use of IT products. This is important for integrating regional systems into the global digital economy.
For Turkmenistan, the strengthening of Microsoft’s presence in the region may lead to closer cooperation in the localization of services and the adaptation of advanced AI solutions to national digital development goals.
