
On 15 February, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ylyas Gayypov, and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran for Political Affairs, Majid Takhtravanchi.
During the meeting, which took place in a friendly atmosphere, the parties discussed issues related to the implementation of the agreements reached between the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Iran, the tasks set forth, as well as the current state and priority areas of strategic Turkmen–Iranian cooperation.
The importance of the working visit of the President of Iran to Turkmenistan on 11–12 December 2025 to participate in the International Forum dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, the International Year of Peace and Trust, and the International Day of Neutrality was emphasized. The meetings held during the visit with the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, and with the President of Turkmenistan were also highlighted.
Preparations for upcoming high-level visits between the two countries were also discussed. The sides gave a high assessment of the political consultations, which serve as an important platform for the development of bilateral cooperation. They noted that it would be expedient to hold the next round. One of the key issues on the agenda was the Caspian topic, which is one of the main areas of Turkmen–Iranian relations. With regard to the Caspian Sea, discussions were held on preparations for the events planned in the near future.

An exchange of views also took place on the development of interregional cooperation, the holding of economic exhibitions, business forums, and cultural events within this framework.
The important role of the Joint Turkmen–Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation within the framework of bilateral relations was noted. During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on holding its next session in Ashgabat, as well as on the practical implementation of the agreements reached following the previous session.
Special attention was paid to cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Its importance and the need for its further development were emphasized.
Ambassador Y.Gayypov informed that 2026 has been declared in Turkmenistan as the Year of “Independent, Neutral Turkmenistan – Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses.” In this regard, information was presented on the events planned in the country, as well as on the historical value, glory, and achievements of the Turkmen Akhal-Teke horses.
At the conclusion of the talks, the sides reaffirmed the significant potential for further strengthening Turkmen–Iranian relations based on the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect.
