Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited primary-level officials and residents in Beijing on Tuesday morning, ahead of the Spring Festival.

Xi went to a community canteen, an apartment complex for seniors, and a downtown commercial area to learn about community and elderly-care services, festival market supplies, and the development of distinctive urban districts.

This year's Spring Festival, or the Chinese New Year, falls on Feb 17.
