On the sidelines of the Ashgabat SPECA Forum, UNESCAP Deputy Executive Secretary Shombi Sharp shared his vision of regional processes and Turkmenistan's role in strengthening international cooperation.
On the Forum's Atmosphere and Ashgabat
"This is my first time in Ashgabat, and I am truly honored by this visit. We were greeted by stunningly beautiful snowy weather, which only enhances the beauty of the Turkmen capital. Here, under Turkmenistan's chairmanship, we, together with colleagues from the UNECE, representatives of the World Bank, and other partners, are discussing the vital need to accelerate Central Asia's connectivity in trade, energy, and water resources."
On the Diplomatic Foundation
— The recent 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality once again confirmed the importance of promoting the International Year of Peace and Trust. These values are at the core of our agenda. Digital transport, e-commerce, and the implementation of UN framework conventions are the tools that transform political trust into economic growth.
On Turkmenistan's Leadership
— Turkmenistan is a strategic partner of ESCAP. We highly value the country's role in modernizing sustainable transport. Ashgabat has initiated several UN General Assembly resolutions and actively promotes the Friends of Sustainable Transport Group. Today, as we discuss climate resilience and green energy, the region's dynamism gives us every reason to be optimistic about future cooperation.
