Ashgabat, January 8 | ORIENT. The Mejlis of Turkmenistan adopted a resolution scheduling election in newly formed velayat etraps, as well as to replace deputies and local council members who have resigned early. According to the document, voting will take place on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
The election campaign will cover several levels of representative government:

In newly formed etraps: Elections for People's Council members will be held in Altyn Asyr Etrap (Akhal), Garashsyzlyk and Gubadag Etraps (Dashoguz), Dovletly, Farap, and Garabekevul Etraps (Lebap), and Oguzkhan Etrap (Mary Velayat).

Parliament (Majlis): Elections to replace those who resigned early will be held in four electoral districts: Lebap Velayat: No. 74 "Amyderýa" and No. 79 "Darganata." Mary Velayat: No. 104 "Peşanaly" and No. 106 "Wekil."

Local Government: New members of velayat, etrap, and city people's councils and gengeshes will also be elected to replace those who resigned.
Conducting voting in the newly formed administrative units will complete the formation of a fully-fledged local governance system, ensuring direct citizen participation in resolving regional issues. The Central Commission for Conducting Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan is expected to begin nominating candidates and registering proxies in the near future.
