AI reshapes traditional industries, fostering new human-machine collaboration
Artificial intelligence is increasingly transforming China’s industrial sectors, moving from theory to practical application in production and productivity.
Across industries such as manufacturing and energy, AI is handling complex tasks, optimizing processes and reshaping how humans and intelligent systems work together. In Wuhu, east China’s Anhui Province, the cement industry illustrates this shift.
Veteran technician Pei Jun once managed the highly complex calcination process in cement production, which requires real-time monitoring of hundreds of parameters under strict environmental standards. Today, AI systems perform this data-intensive work, while Pei collaborates with engineers to train algorithms and guide broader AI integration.
“AI now acts more like a partner,” Pei said, noting its ability to process vast amounts of data simultaneously and reduce the burden of repetitive tasks on workers.
This transition aligns with national policy. China’s State Council last year introduced the “AI Plus” action guideline, encouraging smarter work models, new job creation and human-machine collaboration.
Experts emphasize that the future lies in complementary strengths: machines excel at data processing and pattern recognition, while humans contribute creativity, critical thinking and ethical judgment. Scholars also stress the need for clear regulations to ensure AI development serves humanity and follows the principle of using technology for good.
