Ashgabat, December 28 | ORIENT. The Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan reported significant progress in the development of international transport corridors during the first 11 months of 2025. Statistics confirm that the country is confidently securing its status as a key logistics hub at the crossroads of the North-South and East-West routes. Container shipping, recognized worldwide as the most convenient and modern mode of transportation, has demonstrated impressive growth in Turkmenistan.
Total volume: From January to November 2025, 19,000 containers were transported through the country.
Dynamics: This is 9,405 units more than in the same period last year – the volume has almost doubled.
Flow structure: The lion's share was transit (9,250 containers), the rest was distributed between exports (5,650) and imports (4,100).
The development of multimodal routes has been made possible by active international dialogue and the creation of favorable tariff conditions for freight carriers. During the reporting period, 63 container trains were dispatched on key routes. Particular attention is being paid to strategic corridors such as:
North-South (Russia-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran);
Lazurit and routes to Europe (Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey);
Transport links with Uzbekistan.
Increased container train frequency and a flexible tariff policy make Turkmenistan's railways more attractive to global logistics giants. Consistently improving service quality and modernizing infrastructure allow the country to not simply "pass" freight but to set new standards of reliability in regional logistics.
