On November 22, a solemn award ceremony took place at the historic Red Fangzi building of the Russian Embassy in China: renowned Chinese wushu master Wu Bin was awarded the Russian Order of Friendship. The state award, granted by a decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was presented by Georgy Filimonov, Governor of the Vologda Region.
Wu Bin, recognized as one of the top ten wushu instructors in China, received the order “for his significant contribution to Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of sports.” Among his students are global stars such as Jet Li and Donnie Yen.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions, as well as the Wushu Federation of Russia and China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sergey Kramintsev, Russia’s chargé d’affaires in China, emphasized that Russia highly values the master’s contribution to strengthening bilateral humanitarian ties. Martial arts, as a part of spiritual culture, serve as an important bridge between the peoples of Russia and China.
The Russian diplomat noted that Wu Bin is a legendary figure whose name is firmly inscribed in the history of wushu thanks to his exceptional school and his ability to convey not only martial technique but also the philosophy of wushu based on respect and harmony.
Governor Filimonov, congratulating the master, also highlighted his significant role in developing Russia’s national wushu team into one of the world’s leading squads.
“For the Vologda Region, wushu is not just a sport but a symbol of strength of spirit, endurance, and harmony of body and mind. Chinese martial arts have become an integral part of our sports and cultural tradition,” Filimonov concluded.
The event concluded with a spectacular performance by young wushu masters from the Capital University of Physical Education and Sports of China.
