A delegation from Turkmenistan paid a working visit to Azerbaijan from November 14 to 18. The delegation was led by Pygy Bayramdurdyev, Rector of the Aba Annayev International Academy of Horse Breeding, emphasizing the scientific and educational focus on developing bilateral ties in the field of horse breeding.
Key discussions were held with Colonel General Elchin Guliyev, President of the Equestrian Federation of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the State Border Service, and Allahverdi Israfilov, Director of the Circus at the Sea Breeze resort on the Caspian coast.
During the meetings, the parties discussed strengthening bilateral cultural ties in equestrian sports and national equestrian games, sharing experiences, and further developing cooperation.
Particular attention was paid to familiarization with the infrastructure created in Azerbaijan. The Turkmen delegation visited the largest equestrian centers, Bina and Serkhetchi. The visit was aimed at studying the conditions for the development of national horsemanship and equestrian sports traditions, as well as the breed characteristics of horses, particularly the Karabakh racehorse. This dialogue aims to exchange experiences between the two countries, which traditionally consider horse breeding to be part of their cultural heritage.
The Azerbaijani side has preliminarily announced its readiness to organize a performance by the world-renowned national equestrian troupe, Galkynysh, in Baku in March 2026, marking a new, vibrant stage in the cultural and humanitarian partnership between the two fraternal countries.
During his visit to Azerbaijan in July 2025, Chairman of the Khalk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was presented with a Karabakh horse named Dostluk (Friendship).
In August of the same year, in Avaza, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was presented with an Akhal-Teke horse.
