The 1st meeting of the Central Asian Advisory Council on Ecology was held

On June 5, the first meeting of the Central Asian Advisory Council on Ecology and Sustainable Development was held in Almaty, organized by the Central Asian Institute for Environmental Research (CAIER). The event was attended by public figures and representatives of local organizations working in the field of ecology and sustainable development of the states of the region. Turkmenistan was represented by Director of the Project Office of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) Mergen Kepbanov.

The creation of the Advisory Council was an important step towards institutionalizing a regional dialogue on environmental protection and sustainable development. The platform is designed to unite the efforts of the five countries of the region in the face of common environmental challenges, including the degradation of natural resources, climate change and transboundary management of water systems. The main focus of the council will be the development of proposals for government agencies and the business community in the field of ensuring environmental safety in Central Asia.

The founder of CAIER, Asel Tasmagambetova, gave a welcoming speech, identifying water resources as a key point of interaction for the states of the region. During the meeting, experts, scientists and representatives of specialized organizations discussed practical approaches to solving environmental problems and the possibility of coordinating efforts in the field of environmental policy.

Speaking at the meeting, Mergen Kepbanov emphasized the importance of dialogue platforms of this level: "This is an important initiative that provides an opportunity to openly discuss common environmental problems and share practical approaches. Such dialogues allow us to better understand each other and work more harmoniously for the benefit of the entire region."

The event also included a discussion of the prospects for signing a memorandum of understanding between CAIER and CAREC, which will pave the way for joint implementation of regional environmental projects.

After the official part, the participants got acquainted with the activities of the institute, including laboratory and field research in the sphere of climatology, chemistry and ecology, as well as projects for the protection of biodiversity, including the study and rehabilitation of the Caspian seal. CAIER also presented its own scientific developments and patented technologies in the field of environmental safety.

Turkmenistan's participation in the meeting confirms the country's readiness for an open environmental dialogue and expanded cooperation in the interests of sustainable development of the region. In the future, the Advisory Council will be expanded to include representatives of all Caspian states, according to the CAIER website.
