Turkmenistan and the UN discussed cooperation in the development of cities and settlements
07.05.2025 | 00:20 |On May 6, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova met with members of the assessment mission of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), who arrived as part of international experts.
The main topic of the talks was the expansion of bilateral cooperation, which is actively developing within the framework of the current Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan and UN-Habitat.
At the meeting, it was noted that in recent years, interaction between Turkmenistan and UN-Habitat has significantly intensified. This partnership contributes to the development of national policies in the field of urban development and the development of human settlements in various areas, such as regulation, planning, design and environmental protection in both cities and rural areas.
The parties particularly emphasized the importance of national programs adopted and implemented in Turkmenistan. These programs are in line with the country's commitments under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and are a key basis for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 11 - make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
The negotiations were held in a constructive atmosphere. In conclusion, the interlocutors confirmed their mutual intention to strengthen cooperation and fill it with new, concrete content.
Earlier, we reported that the issue of opening a UN-Habitat Regional Office in Turkmenistan is being discussed in order to expand the representation of UN entities in the country.
