ITSE: British expert presented ESG standards and their importance for Turkmen business
01.05.2025 | 21:46 |As part of the third and final day of the International Trade and Services Exhibition (ITSE) in Ashgabat, a special seminar was held on current issues in the field of environmental protection, social relations and corporate governance – ESG standards. The event was held by Kongkona Sarma, founder of the British company Sidona Green Ltd.
The seminar focused on the importance of ESG standards and frameworks and their importance for compliance by companies in Turkmenistan. ESG criteria (Environment, Social, Governance) are becoming a key factor in assessing the sustainability and ethics of business at the global level. Investors, banks and international partners around the world are increasingly making decisions based on how responsible a company is in terms of ecology, care for personnel and society, as well as management transparency.
For Turkmen companies, understanding and implementing ESG principles opens up new prospects - from attracting "green" investments to entering markets where compliance with these standards is a mandatory requirement.
The seminar held by Kongkona Sarma at the ITSE exhibition highlights the growing interest in the ESG topic in Turkmenistan and the desire of local businesses to comply with global trends. Sidona Green Ltd.'s activity in this area is manifested not only in educational events: the day before, following the results of the QACIS-2025 International Conference in Ashgabat, Sidona Green signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Turkmen Financial Center "Ygtybarly" specifically in the field of certification according to ESG standards. This indicates a transition from discussions to practical steps to implement ESG practices in Turkmenistan.
The seminar at the ITSE exhibition provided Turkmen specialists with valuable knowledge about international requirements in the field of ESG, highlighting their role as an important tool for sustainable development and increasing competitiveness in the international arena.
