BELTA: Belstat to utilize AI in 2030 population census
10.03.2025 | 12:30 |The National Statistical Committee of Belarus (Belstat) has announced its intent to implement artificial intelligence (AI) during the 2030 population census.
As reported by BELTA, the Deputy Chairman of Belstat, Timofei Zhigarev, articulated these plans at the 56th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission in New York. The primary objective of AI integration is to substantially enhance the utilization of administrative data, thereby significantly reducing the burden on respondents. This innovation also entails the establishment of a population statistical register, which will streamline the data collection and processing procedures. The legal framework necessary for accessing relevant information resources has already been established, facilitating the effective use of data from diverse providers.
The application of AI in the population census represents a pivotal step towards the modernization of statistical processes within the country, ensuring the generation of more precise and up-to-date data. Furthermore, the session endorsed efforts to update the system of national accounts, underscoring Belarus's commitment to aligning with international statistical standards.
