Global Information Governance Day is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of February. It was established to highlight the importance of sound data management in the modern world and to acquaint the public with its key principles. Media campaigns, discussions, trainings and educational seminars are organized on this day.
In the modern world, information has become one of the most important resources: without it, it is impossible to imagine scientific research, business processes, or the work of government and public institutions. However, large volumes of data are of little value if they cannot be structured and used effectively. Hence the importance of information management, which is seen as the process of collecting, storing, processing and disseminating data in such a way that they are accessible, understandable and useful to those who need them.
It's not just about working with documents or databases, but about a whole system of approaches and tools that help people and organizations make the right decisions. Effective information management makes it possible to better understand the world, find solutions faster, and create new products and services. Information management helps improve work in various areas - public administration, business, medicine, education, and technology. Big Data and artificial intelligence (AI) are based on the effective management of huge amounts of information. Recommender systems (for example, in Netflix or YouTube) analyze user viewing history and preferences to offer relevant content.
In recent years, humanity has created more data than in all of history. This process continues to accelerate as the Internet and digital devices become more accessible. In the 1960s, one of the first computer database management systems, the Integrated Data Store (IDS), was developed. It became the prototype for subsequent solutions in this area.
In the digital age, the volume of data is growing at a rapid pace, and the better we learn to collect, store, and analyze it, the more significant results we will achieve. Information is the key to success, and a responsible and competent approach to its use increases the chances of development and prosperity in the future.
