Turkmenistan outlines key objectives for joint work with UNESCO in 2025

On 15 February, Ashgabat hosted a meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Affairs. The event saw the participation of relevant deputy prime ministers, the executive secretary of the commission, and heads and representatives of relevant departments.

Opening the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov emphasized the special attention paid by the country's leadership to Turkmenistan's cooperation with UNESCO. The meeting summarized the commission's activities in 2024 and outlined work directions for 2025.

Among the significant events of the past year, the 10th meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO Affairs of the TURKSOY member countries in Ashgabat in May was noted. In 2024, dozens of meetings and consultations were held in online and offline formats with representatives of UNESCO and its regional divisions, during which cooperation prospects in science, education, culture and ecology were considered. Important documents and decisions concerning interaction with UNESCO were adopted.

Plans for the near future include systematic work in the context of Turkmenistan's proposals for the inclusion of national values in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

During the meeting, topics such as strengthening Turkmenistan's role in UNESCO's divisions, expanding international scientific cooperation, and holding joint events in connection with the announcement of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust were touched upon.
