Director-General of UNESCO, named the Mexican city of Guadalajara the World Book Capital for the year 2022. It is the twenty second city which has received the title since 2001.
The city was chosen for its policy based on love to the book, for aspiration to cause social changes and to construct the culture based on peace.
The offered program of Guadalajara is concentrated to three directions: reading restoration in parks and other places; social communication and unity, especially by means of seminars on reading; strengthening of originality with use story telling (marketing reception which uses media potential for the purpose of the effective report of the information through stories and examples, this ability to create high-quality and well readable content) and street poetry.
The cities recognised as the World book capitals of UNESCO, undertake to advance the importance of the book and reading, and also to organise various cultural actions within a year. So, Guadalajara will use libraries, reading rooms, bookshops, independent publishing houses and world famous international book fair for advancement of human rights, cultures of the world among the public, and also disclosing of huge potential of books on a way to social transformations. Within a year literary meetings with the Latin American writers will be organised, the art project on the Babel tower is held, the actions connecting theatre and music with literature and local radio for recitation is used.
Celebrating will begin on April, 23, 2022 on the World day of the book and the copyright. Guadalajara accepts relay race at Tbilisi (2021) and Kuala Lumpur (2020).
