«Since the beginning of the year, 16.7 billion cubic meters of water have been directed to the Caspian Sea via the Ural River», stated the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry, the average multi-year flow of the Ural River is 9.46 cubic kilometers.
«However, this year, the volume of water exceeded the average multi-year norm. It should be noted that the river flow depends on the volume of water released from the Iriklinsky Reservoir in Russia,» the statement explains.
Since the beginning of this year, representatives of the ministry have held 28 meetings with counterparts from Russia, China, and Central Asian countries on the topic of transboundary rivers.
