 Ashgabat hosts meeting of speakers of parliaments of Central Asian countries and the Republic of Korea

The second meeting of speakers of parliaments of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea was held in Ashgabat.

Speakers at the plenary session "Partnership for Peace, Prosperity and Mutual Trust" noted that the key role in creating and strengthening the foundation of parliamentary relations between Turkmenistan and foreign countries belongs to National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. It was emphasized that in recent years, along with traditional issues on the agenda of multilateral cooperation between the states of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea, inter-parliamentary dialogue has also become important in the implementation of agreements at the highest level, as well as in expanding practical cooperation. Inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups, whose activities are an effective tool for mutual understanding, are called upon to play a major role in this.

The work continued in two sessions: "Economic cooperation, digital economy and industry" and "Cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea to mitigate the effects of climate change on the way to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals".

The participants of the meeting, having noted the demand for the "Central Asia - Republic of Korea" format, which is already proving its effectiveness, noted that for the successful implementation of joint plans, it is necessary to raise the mutually beneficial and promising partnership between the Central Asian "five" and the Republic of Korea to a qualitatively new level.

In the context of exchanging national experience in ensuring sustainable development and strengthening the legal framework for cooperation, the participants shared their views on modern methods of improving parliamentary and legislative activities, developing ties between parliamentary friendship groups, specialized committees, women parliamentarians and young deputies.

It was emphasized that the meeting of the speakers of the National Assembly of Korea and the parliaments of Central Asia is intended to become a platform for regular dialogue on coordinating cooperation in priority areas. The results of the second meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of the Central Asian states and the Republic of Korea were reflected in the Joint Declaration, adopted on the basis of the proposals and opinions put forward, TDH reports.


Within the framework of the second meeting of the speakers of parliaments of the Central Asian states and the Republic of Korea, the second Turkmen-Korean consultative meeting was held with the participation of representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. Current issues of trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation were discussed, including in the areas of transport, energy, high technology, science, education, healthcare, sports, tourism, climate change and environmental protection.

Chairwoman of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova also held bilateral meetings with the Chairman of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Koshanov, the Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov. In addition, meetings were held at the level of interparliamentary Friendship Groups.
