 The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan discussed bilateral cooperation

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, while in Astana to participate in the VI Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, met with President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Having thanked Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the initiative to hold this meeting, as well as for his great personal contribution to the development of relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the cooperation between our countries covers various areas, including economics, trade, transport, culture and other important areas, TDH reports.

Having noted with satisfaction the active development of the Turkmen-Uzbek economic partnership in a wide range of areas, including agriculture, electric power, oil and gas, chemical industry and other industries, the President of Uzbekistan, in turn, emphasized the importance of opening Trade Houses in the territory of both states and holding economic forums.

Touching upon other important vectors of bilateral cooperation, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov especially highlighted transport, where Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan could make efforts to create the necessary conditions for unifying the transport systems of Central Asia, China, Europe, the Near and Middle East.

As noted, fruitful cooperation has also been established in the energy sector. In accordance with the agreements between our countries, Turkmen electricity has been supplied to Uzbekistan since December 2019. Natural gas is also supplied from Turkmenistan to neighboring Uzbekistan.

The interlocutors also noted with satisfaction the successful development of bilateral contacts in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. Indicative in this regard was the wide celebration of the 300th anniversary of the world-renowned classic of Turkmen literature and philosopher-humanist of the East Magtymguly Fragi.
