The national team of Turkmenistan went to the Olympic Games in Paris

On July 22, a solemn ceremony took place in the Ashgabat Olympic Village to see off the national team of Turkmenistan for the Summer Olympic Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11 in Paris.

The Turkmen Olympic delegation included 19 people, as well as 6 athletes who will perform in four sports: judo, weightlifting, swimming and athletics.

A welcoming address from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Turkmen athletes participating in the 2024 Olympics in Paris was read out at the ceremony. Addressing the athletes, the head of state expressed confidence that they would raise the National Flag of Turkmenistan high at the upcoming world sports festival.

“During the period of development of the national sports movement, the responsibility for the formation of the sports prestige of Turkmenistan falls mainly on you. With your victories and high achievements in sports, you must demonstrate the results of the excellent conditions created at the state level for young athletes! I firmly believe that you will successfully perform at the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games, which will be held in the city of Paris of the French Republic, and will raise the National Flag of Turkmenistan high.”

Turkmenistan, as an independent state, made its debut at the Olympic Games in 1996 in Atlanta. The first significant success was achieved at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where weightlifter Polina Guryeva won a silver medal in the up to 59 kg category.

Athletes of Turkmenistan traditionally show strong results in weightlifting and wrestling, and participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris promises new achievements and records for the national team.
