Leaders, experts from around the world will come together to discuss the fight against desertification and drought
05.06.2024 | 10:05 |On June 17, 2024, World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, a global event will take place in Bonn, Germany.
The event will be organized by the German government and dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification.
In line with this year's slogan, “United for the Earth: Our Legacy. Our Future”, a key topic of discussion at the event will be protecting healthy lands for future generations for global prosperity and stability.
The conference will bring together heads of government, representatives of academia and civil society, and youth to advocate for the rational use of land resources and demonstrate a strong commitment to unite in the name of preserving the earth.
In particular, delegates will discuss the role of young leaders and innovators in transforming land management practices, and exchange views on the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The conference will take place from December 2 to 13, 2024.
Desertification, land degradation and drought threaten the world's food supply and increase the risk of droughts, floods and wildfires.
It is worth noting that engaging youth in transforming the food system and restoring land resources could help create the 600 million jobs needed by 2030.
