Turkmenistan may take over the chairmanship of SPECA in 2025

Turkmenistan may take over the chairmanship of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in 2025. This was stated by Deputy Secretary General, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe Tatyana Molchan.

Speaking online at the international conference “Promoting Peace: Implementing Strategies to Strengthen Confidence between Countries” held in Ashgabat on April 11, the UNECE Executive Secretary recalled that Turkmenistan successfully chaired SPECA in 2019. This led to the adoption of the Ashgabat Initiative to Reduce Barriers to Trade and Transport through legal instruments, norms and standards.

“Last November, the heads of state and government of the program countries held the first SPECA summit. The Baku Declaration and the Roadmap for digitalization for multimodal data exchange along the Transcaspian transport corridor, adopted with the support of the UNECE, contribute to the transformation of Central Asia into a transport hub of global importance. I had the honor of participating in this event and felt a spirit of mutual understanding and a willingness to collaborate for sustainable development. The heads of the SPECA countries have set ambitious plans for the future, and they can be implemented under the chairmanship of Turkmenistan in 2025. We are negotiating with the government of Turkmenistan in this regard,” Tatyana Molchan said.
