Lights were turned off in the main buildings of Astana during Earth Hour
23.03.2024 | 23:34 |Kazakhstanis took part in the largest environmental action: electricity was turned off in 100 buildings of the capital for an hour, MIR 24 reports.
Among such buildings are the residence of the president "Akorda", the symbol of the capital "Baiterek", the Astana Opera Theater, the sphere of the EXPO exhibition center and others. There are over a thousand of them in the country. The Kazakh initiators of the campaign admit that they will not be able to save a lot of light in an hour, the event has a different purpose.
"Our task is to unite around this action in order to broadcast the problems that we have in the environment. We have a lot of problems – with water, soil erosion, and so on. The Earth Hour campaign allows you to broadcast all this. This is not a media campaign. The main message of the campaign is environmental education," said Alan Besen, the initiator of the Earth Hour campaign in Kazakhstan.
This year, Kazakhstan participates in the Earth Hour campaign for the 15th time.
