
The volume of trade between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan in 2023 amounted to 457 million US dollars, and the rate of positive growth continues in 2024. In January of this year, mutual trade turnover reached 46 million US dollars, compared to the same period of the last year, this figure more than doubled. Such figures were announced at the Turkmen-Afghan business forum that opened on Monday in Ashgabat.
It was noted that Turkmenistan exports to Afghanistan mainly products of the fuel and energy complex, chemical industry, production of construction materials, agricultural industry, textile and light industry.
The volume of imports from Afghanistan to Turkmenistan also increased by 14% compared to January of the last year. These indicators, as well as the exhibition of Afghan goods that opened today in the Turkmen capital, indicate good prospects for trade cooperation between the two countries.
In particular, there are opportunities to increase supplies to Afghanistan of Turkmen products from the chemical, food, textile, pharmaceutical industries, detergents and cleaning products, polypropylene, plastic products, etc. And from Afghanistan to Turkmenistan - agricultural and construction products, mineral materials.
The agenda of the business forum includes issues of developing cooperation in the oil and gas sector related to the effective use of the existing great opportunities between the two countries, opportunities for new projects in the electric power industry, in industry, and in the agricultural sector.
Particular importance is attached to the implementation of such large projects as the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, as well as power lines and the fiber-optic line Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan, the laying of new railways connecting the two countries, the commissioning of a customs terminal equipped with a modern and innovative equipment.
Afghan businessmen are also invited to take an active part in exchange trading organized by the State Commodity Exchange of Turkmenistan in the building of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry tomorrow, March 5.
