A Chinese startup has invented an atomic battery for «eternal» electronics

The young Chinese company Betavolt has introduced the world's first nuclear power supply for electronics.

The mini battery can last for 50 years without the need for recharging or maintenance.

According to the creators of the development, such a battery is absolutely safe, has no external radiation, and after decay, the nickel isotope it uses turns into a stable and non-radioactive copper isotope, harmless to the environment.

The dimensions of the power supply are 15 × 15 × 5 mm (smaller than a coin), the power at this stage is 100 microwatts, and the voltage is 3 Volts. By 2025, the company plans to increase the capacity of such a battery to 1 watt.

The novelty can be used in mobile phones (they will never have to be charged), robots, drones, AI equipment, medical devices such as pacemakers, sensors for various purposes, etc.

According to the creators, the battery will not catch fire and will not explode even with a sudden strong impact. Its operating temperature range ranges from -60 to 120 °C.

Now the nuclear battery is being tested, after which it will be released for use in commercial products.
