President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received on Monday new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Turkmenistan, Ahmet Demirok, who presented his credentials to the head of state.
The diplomat conveyed greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the President of Turkmenistan, as well as the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and wished him great success in his mission, emphasizing that Turkey is a brotherly country for Turkmenistan, relations with which are of a long-term strategic nature. It was stated that bilateral interaction is built on the basis of mutual respect and support, both countries have similar views on international policy issues, as reported in the news release of the Turkmen State Television and Radio.
The President of Turkmenistan said that he remembers with particular warmth his official visit to the Republic of Turkey in October 2023, during which a number of important documents were signed, the implementation of which is on the cooperation agenda today.
Particular attention was paid to trade and economic relations, which were given a new impetus by the 7th meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation and the exhibition of export products of Turkish manufacturers held in Ashgabat in December.
The parties also considered the prospects for contacts in the field of education and training, and in other areas of cultural and humanitarian dialogue.
Ahmet Demirok also met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, discussing with him a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, including through parliament.
Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Ahmet Demirok headed his country's diplomatic mission in Eritrea since August 15, 2021. Within the Turkish Foreign Ministry, he previously held various positions in Greece, Australia, Serbia, Austria, Qatar and the UK.
