 Moscow discussed documents to be presented to the Council of Heads of the CIS Governments

On December 8, 2023, the anniversary, 100th meeting of the CIS Economic Council took place in Moscow. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the CIS Economic Council, First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev.

Turkmenistan was represented at the meeting by Counselor of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Russian Federation Serdar Durdyev.

The Council's agenda included a wide range of topical issues of economic cooperation between the CIS member states. In particular, the draft Action Plan for optimizing infrastructure and developing international transport corridors passing through the territories of the CIS member states for the period until 2030 was reviewed. The plan is aimed at expanding and deepening cooperation between transport ministries and departments in the development of international transport corridors (ITC) through the implementation of agreed measures to improve their functioning, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reports.

It is expected that the implementation of the Action Plan will ensure the most effective use of the capabilities of the CIS ITC, will create conditions for increasing their competitiveness, attracting cargo flows, and realizing the transport and transit potential of the Commonwealth states. The document will be submitted for consideration to the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS.

Among other documents, the draft Concept of cooperation in the energy sector for the period until 2035 and the Plan of priority measures for its implementation were considered. They are aimed at solving large-scale problems of qualitative transformation of the energy sector of the CIS countries, achieving goals for the transition to more energy efficient, environmentally friendly, resource-saving and sustainable energy, and creating competitive advantages for fuel and energy sectors on the world stage. These documents will also be submitted to the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS, meeting of which is scheduled for May 2024.

And the CIS Economic Council will meet again on March 29, 2024. The spring International Economic Forum of the CIS is planned to be held on the same day.

At the meeting, the chairmanship of the CIS Economic Council was transferred to Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk.
