SpaceX will connect smartphones directly to Starlink

In December, SpaceX, owned by American entrepreneur Elon Musk, plans to begin testing cellular communications using Starlink satellites. Thus, smartphones will be connected directly to the global satellite system deployed by SpaceX.

The company has filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) The United States for obtaining a license to conduct a series of tests.

Testing is scheduled to begin on December 10 and last 180 days. During this period, SpaceX, in partnership with T-Mobile, a group of companies working in the field of mobile communications, plans to test cellular communications using the licensed frequency spectrum of the mobile operator to transmit a signal from satellites to 2,000 test devices.

At the initial stage, the company intends to test satellite cellular communications in 13 areas of the country, including Mountain View in California, Kansas City in Kansas and Houston in Texas.
