Life goes on - Julio Iglesias is 80 years old
23.09.2023 | 15:39 |Julio Iglesias, the main romantic of Spain and the most famous Spanish singer, is celebrating his anniversary - today he is 80 years old. For half a century now the whole world has been listening to his songs and during this time he has given thousands of concerts, released 57 albums, sold 300 million of his records and was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the most commercially successful Spanish-language musician.
Although at first the musical career did not work out. When he auditioned for a choir as a child, he was rejected and advised to do anything but sing. Then he went into football and at the age of 16 became the goalkeeper of the Real Madrid youth team. He was predicted to play for the main team, but there was a car accident and Iglesias found himself bedridden. The young guy’s sports career was destroyed, but the “door opened” to a musical career.
And all thanks to the orderly who looked after him in the hospital. So that the ex-athlete would not get bored, he brought him a guitar. The instrument fascinated the young man so much that he learned to walk again. And it was in the hospital that Iglesias wrote his first songs, including the most famous, “Life Goes On.”
He went to the academy to study music and already in 1968 he performed at the famous Spanish song competition and won three awards at once. Julio Iglesias sang differently from others. When performing songs, he knows exactly where to sing more quietly, where to give him more voice, and always that signature trembling in his voice, which gives a unique timbre color. It seems that this is how he conquered the world.
Iglesias sings not only in Spanish, but in 14 other languages, and at 80 years old, the musician is not even planning to retire. He writes songs, releases albums and gives concerts, because life goes on, as he sings in his famous composition.
