Russian restaurant with Turkmen creativity in downtown Chicago

In the center of the American city of Chicago, the Russian restaurant Russian Tea Time has been operating for 30 years, where people mainly from the former Soviet Union, and now living in the United States come to eat. Recently, this cozy gastrospace has been run by two Turkmen women - sisters Enesh and Altyn. They turned the establishment into one of the favorite places of the citizens, where you can taste the delicious dishes of the Turkmen national cuisine, other Central Asian countries and ex-Soviet republics, as well as other countries of the world, CSB Chicago says on its pages.

The culinary geography of the restaurant is very extensive, but the main secret of popularity is that they cook here according to the recipes of grandmothers, and it is for this unique taste of childhood that visitors come here. The creative move of Turkmen women with the launch of "vintage" food turned out to be very advantageous.

— We have international cuisine, and our guests share recipes. They try dishes from the menu and say, “Oh, my grandmother used to cook this” and offer their options for goodies from their grandmothers. This is how the “vintage” menu appeared, Enesh says.

The gastronomic adjustments made by the sisters were very much liked by the visitors of the salon. In one place you can try the cuisine of different peoples of the world, or rather, feast on the masterpieces of Turkmen, Moldovan, Ukrainian, Romanian and other grandmothers.

“If you open the menu, we will have Ukrainian borscht, Georgian wines, Polish dumplings with shrimp and more. We promote the most delicious from around the world. And you can see from the faces of the guests that they like our treats. They enjoy food,” Altyn says.

And once the Turkmen women Enesh and Altyn were themselves clients of Russian Tea Time, where they often came to eat. And one day, having learned that the business was put up for sale, they decided to buy the restaurant and launch the project in a new way. A year later, the gastrobar of sisters from Turkmenistan has become one of the cozy and delicious places in Chicago, where people come to taste grandmother's dishes.
