The Public Library named after Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Biblioteca García Márquez), which is located in Barcelona, received the title of the best library in the world in 2023. The competition was held by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). The rivals in the final of this year's competition were libraries from Slovenia, Australia and China, the Spanish media write.

The Barcelona Library is located in the San Marti district in an avant- garde building in La Verneda, which is characterized by impressive architecture and innovative design. It has 6 floors on an area of 4000 square meters. On average, it is visited by almost 1,000 people a day and conferences, book clubs and meetings with writers from different parts of the world are often held here.

The Gabriel Garcia Marquez Library becomes the first in Spain to receive such international recognition. It opened quite recently, in May 2022, and immediately delighted and impressed everyone. Almost all the reviews of visitors sounded - it's cozy, light and stylish here. In the year of its opening, it was awarded the Barcelona City Prize in Architecture and is a finalist for the FAD Award in Architecture and Interior Design, the results of which will be announced on October 19, 2023.
