Another cub appeared in the "Center of descendants" of the Turkmen leopard
04.07.2023 | 14:37 |Another cub has appeared at the Center for the Restoration of the Front Asian leopard in the Caucasus, this time from leopards Shiva and Filou from Sweden, RIA Novosti reports.
Currently, the Center contains 13 individuals. The main part of the population is the descendants of two Turkmen males and Iranian females brought here in 2009. The Turkmen-Iranian "couple" became the first formed in the Center and brought offspring in 2013 — two kittens.
In the future, the female refused one of the babies. Custody of him was taken by the staff of the Center, which was later used to breed new offspring. During this period, a small pair was formed by leopards from Portugal.
Earlier, until the 1950s of the last century, the leopard was widely distributed in the Caucasus, but then its number sharply decreased, and in the future it was completely reduced to zero.
