Kazakhstan has developed speech recognition technology in Turkic languages

Kazakhstan has developed a speech recognition technology in Turkic languages. This was announced by the founding director of the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence of Nazarbayev University (NU ISSAI) Hussein Atakan Varol.

According to him, the technology recognizes the speech of ten Turkic languages — Kazakh, Azerbaijani, Bashkir, Kyrgyz, Sakha, Tatar, Turkish, Uighur, Uzbek and Chuvash.

"Now we live in a digital world, and in this world we need to communicate with computers, smartphones and other smart devices using natural language. This requires us to develop speech recognition algorithms in which computers hear and understand speech," said Hussein Atakan Varol.

As the professor emphasized, language recognition technology can be used in all spheres of life.

"Imagine that you call a bank and start interacting with a bot, and this bot must understand your language. If you speak English, it's very simple, because there are speech recognition models for English. But these bots did not exist in the Kazakh language before, and therefore you could not talk to bots of this type and other digital agents in the Kazakh language, now it has become possible," the professor said.
