Trans-Caspian gas pipeline - in the EU list of projects of common interests
04.11.2019 | 07:24 |The European Commission approved the fourth list of projects of common interest (PCI) for the implementation of the cross-border energy infrastructure in the European Union.
This list is a careful balance between the three main objectives: sustainable development, accessibility and security of energy supplies.
In general, the number of gas projects in the list decreased from 53 to 32 over the past two years which is 21% of all projects in the PCI list. Those in the new list include a project related to the transportation of Turkmen gas through the Trans-Caspian pipeline.
The Trans-Caspian gas pipeline provides for the transportation of gas from Turkmenistan to Europe through Azerbaijan. To do this, it is necessary to lay a 300-kilometer gas pipeline to the shores of Azerbaijan over the bottom of the Caspian Sea.
Earlier, representative of the European Commission Directorate General for Energy Erlandas Grigorovich expressed the EU’s extreme interest in building a gas pipeline over the bottom of the Caspian Sea and readiness to support companies that decided to participate in the project.
