Mufti Albir Krganov, Chairman of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia, advised fellow believers to prepare the popular Olivier salad from halal products for the New Year's table.
“I strongly advise fellow believers to prepare the Olivier salad, without which it is impossible to imagine the New Year's table, only from halal (permitted by Islam) products. Appropriate sausage, meat or mayonnaise can be bought in specialized shops or in mosques. And the rest of the ingredients - eggs, vegetables, peas and other ingredients - can be purchased at regular retail outlets," Mufti Krganov told RIA Novosti.
He noted that the Soviet tradition of celebrating the New Year with “Olivier” salad among Muslims of the post-Soviet space has survived to this day.
“This is a tribute to historical memory. Muslims are conservative, so they have a lot of dishes prepared according to Soviet recipes on their tables. Firstly, it is really tasty, and secondly, seeing such dishes, we remember our childhood. Alcohol, of course, is forbidden among adherents of Islam,” he added.
At the same time, Mufti Krganov advised not to overeat during the New Year holidays.
“During this period, it is quite a tempting period to visit and receive relatives and friends. I advise you not to overeat in order to go to work in early January kind, cheerful and good spirits,” Mufti Krganov concluded.
