The modernized Astrakhan cargo terminal may become a "dry" port in 2024

"For this purpose, there are all the necessary communications - railway tracks and approaches to highways. The facility can become a "dry"port as part of the development of a port special economic zone," Igor Babushkin, the governor of the Astrakhan Region, wrote in his Telegram channel.

Since the beginning of the year, the Astrakhan cargo terminal, located at the Kutum station of the Volga Railway, has received over 25 thousand tons of fruit and vegetable products from Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, India, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. In November alone, the region received more than 3 thousand tons of vegetables and fruits imported from these countries. Astrakhan residents received fresh tomatoes, lettuce, persimmons, grapes, as well as various dried fruits and cereals, including raisins, dates and rice. 15-20 wagons and trucks with goods are unloaded here every day.

The terminal modernization project includes the reconstruction of container and heavy-weight platforms, the modernization of lifting mechanisms and the creation of conditions for comfortable work of employees. The reconstruction will also increase cargo turnover along the international transport corridor "North-South" and activate further development of the route. The future logistics center on the territory of the Astrakhan Cargo Terminal, the creation of which is currently being developed by experts, will also contribute to this.
