In September, the city of Pattaya, Thailand will host the 85th World Weightlifting Championships with the Turkmenistan national team taking part in the event. Our athletes are training intensely and rigorously for the World Championships, since our country’s qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will depend on their performance in Thailand. Turkmen weightlifters are now in Russia for a training camp. Following this, they will travel to Turkey and Kazakhstan to exchange knowledge and expertise. 13 athletes (4 women and 9 men) are on the Turkmenistan national team for the 85th World Weightlifting Championships in Pattaya. Noteworthily, the previous 84th World Weightlifting Championships held in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, in 2018 has been recognized as a sporting event with the highest degree of organization in the IWF’s history.
