Turkmen railways and the port of Turkmenbashi will increase cargo turnover to 400,000 TEU per year

JSC "Demirellari" and the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi plan to reach the volume of cargo transshipment of 400,000 containers (TEU) per year.

There are prerequisites for this. The post-pandemic container turnover is growing in all directions, including according to the five-sided protocol signed by the railway administrations of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia. So, in the first half of 2022, 2 times more containers were transported in this direction than in the same period of 2021.

Only on the route Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan through the port of Turkmenbashi, the volume of transportation for 8 months of this year reached 389.73 thousand tons, while the growth was 188% towards Uzbekistan, and in the opposite direction - about seven times.

The volume of railway export-import traffic for the same period between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan amounted to more than 1 million 383 thousand tons, and the transit of goods through the territories of both countries increased four times.

The leadership of the railway departments of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey are regularly negotiating to improve the efficiency of this route and speed up the delivery of goods along it through the simplification of various procedures. This corridor is one of the most promising in container transportation from China and Central Asia to Europe and back.
