The head of OPEC will speak at the International Conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan"

On 27-28 of October, Ashgabat will host the 26th International Conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan” (OGT 2021), dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence. The plenary session of the Conference will focus on the future of global energy and will see the presentation by HE Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo – Secretary General of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), who will join the forum online.

OPEC, an intergovernmental structure, marked its 60th Anniversary in September 2020. Since its founding, OPEC has been committed to supporting stability in the global oil market, securing a steady income for the producing countries; ensuring an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to the consuming nations; and bringing about a fair return on capital for those investing in the petroleum industry. OPEC consistently seeks to build bridges between parties and facilitate discussions on issues of great importance – developments in the oil market, the energy transition, decarbonisation of economies, climate change and technological innovation.

The Organization believes that the oil industry has an important role to play in addressing the climate challenge and eradication of energy poverty in the context of sustainable development. The oil sector can contribute to an emissions-free future, particularly with regard to technological innovation and efficiency enhancement.

«When our Organization was founded, few could have foreseen the enormous, positive impact that OPEC would have on the oil market and the global economy. The vision of our Founder Members lives in the hearts of all people who seek oil market stability in the interests of producers, consumers and the global economy», stated The Secretary General.

René Bautz Chairman of Global Gas Centre will share ideas about the importance of natural gas, as world insurance energy for power transition and economic restoration and a considerable role that Turkmenistan can play in this field.

Being a unique platform with the objective of promoting sustainable energy, the GGC believes that natural gas has an important role to play in the future energy mix and the global energy transition to a lower carbon economy. Center’s approach is to continually expand network of partners to enable the gas industry to play its part in the wider global energy sector.

The plenary session will also see presentations of Urban Rusnák – Secretary General of the Energy Charter Secretariat, Tim Gould – Chief Energy Economist of International Energy Agency (IEA), Hou Qijun – President of CNPC, video message of Mariam Almaszade – CEO, Socar Trading SA.

Due to travel restrictions in the world, the event will be held in both traditional and online formats, which will expand the composition of its participants, provide foreign partners with access to all sessions.

Online participation at OGT 2021 is free of charge.

Deadline for registration is Friday, 22 October.
