Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, reviewed the implementation of key Turkmen initiatives, focusing on the significance of the new General Assembly Resolution on the Role and Importance of Neutrality in Strengthening Peace and Security, which was unanimously adopted on May 20. During the meeting on May 28, recognition was also given to the strategic initiative of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to proclaim 2028 the Year of International Law, aimed at restoring a culture of trust, preventive diplomacy, and legal mechanisms in global politics, with the UN Regional Centre for International Law in Ashgabat serving as the coordinator.
During the discussion of transport and environmental issues, Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, particularly welcomed Turkmenistan's significant role in advancing multilateral cooperation, supporting the central role of the UN, and successfully implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and the international transport agenda.
The practical implementation of the UN Decade on Sustainable Transport for the coming years was discussed, particularly emphasizing the historic significance of the recent results of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which was held to great acclaim in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.
Ashgabat's proposals to advance the Caspian Environmental Initiative and establish regional climate centers were also voiced. In summing up the meeting, the diplomats discussed in detail the humanitarian dimension of cooperation, including the empowerment of women and youth within the framework of security programs, and reaffirmed their mutual readiness to utilize the enormous authority of the UN General Assembly to build a constructive interstate dialogue.
