Xi Jinping calls for new achievements on the “new Long March”

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday called for carrying forward the cause pioneered by the country's revolutionary predecessors and making new achievements on the “new Long March.” The remarks came at a gathering in Beijing marking the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army's historic Long March. CCTV+ published the report under ID 8504900.
Speaking at the Great Hall of the People, Xi said that remembering history is essential to creating a better future.
At his proposal, participants observed a moment of silence for those who died during the Long March and other revolutionary struggles in China.
From October 1934 to October 1936, the Red Army led by the Communist Party of China marched around 12,500 kilometers through more than 10 provinces.
Xi described the Long March as a major event in the history of the CPC, the country and its armed forces. He said the Party's leadership and the establishment of Mao Zedong's leading position were decisive to its outcome.
He also emphasized the role of political conviction, unity and public support, saying that the spirit associated with the Long March remains part of China's historical legacy.
Xi linked the historical experience of the Long March with China's present-day development agenda, highlighting the need to balance development and security, address risks and challenges, and continue the country's modernization.
He also called for faster efforts to strengthen the armed forces and maintain Party leadership over the military.
The gathering was attended by Premier Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, Vice President Han Zheng and around 3,000 other participants.
Zhao Leji, who presided over the event, called for careful study of Xi's remarks and their implementation in future work.
According to CCTV+, the gathering was held as part of events commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Red Army's Long March victory.
