The 2026 World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference opened in Tianjin on Friday, bringing together representatives from more than 70 countries and regions.

The event is jointly hosted by China's Ministry of Education, the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO and the Tianjin municipal government, and will run through Saturday.

This year's conference focuses on adapting to change, developing shared standards and shaping the future of technical and vocational education and training. Four parallel sessions are being held for South and Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.

Participants are discussing vocational education development, experience sharing and broader international cooperation. Foreign delegates have also highlighted opportunities to engage with Chinese institutions and exchange technical expertise.

One of the key events will be the official release of the world's first "Framework of World Vocational and Technical Education Standards," developed under China's leadership.

According to China's Ministry of Education, the framework draws on both Chinese practice and international experience and covers key areas including values, systems, governance, support mechanisms and practical measures.

The conference also features an exhibition on China's vocational education and the finals of the World Vocational College Skills Competition.

According to CCTV+, the event is aimed at expanding international exchanges in vocational education and promoting common approaches and standards for technical and professional training.
