Shanghai builds industrial base for 6G development

Shanghai's Songjiang District is emerging as one of the city's main centers for developing 6G technologies. A 123,000-square-meter industrial park now hosts more than 120 companies, around 40 of them linked to the 6G industry chain.
One company is developing wearable brain-computer interfaces. Its current devices can already allow users to order coffee without touching a screen, while future applications may include controlling smart-home systems and robots.
Other companies are exploring how 6G could support much larger artificial intelligence systems. A developer of intelligent airport inspection technology says next-generation networks could allow a single AI agent to process data from thousands of cameras in real time.
Songjiang authorities have also launched a 300-million-yuan, or about 45-million-U.S.-dollar, fund to support 6G-related businesses. Additional incentives are available for major science and technology projects and newly recognized unicorn companies.
The park brings together incubators, testing facilities, technology services and enterprises. By 2030, Songjiang's wider 6G industrial cluster is expected to generate more than 100 billion yuan in annual industrial output.
