U.S. President Donald Trump held a welcome ceremony for Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House on Thursday and pledged to work with him to build a better future for China and the United States.
At Trump's invitation, Xi is making a state visit to the United States from Wednesday to Friday. It is Xi's second state visit to the United States after his first such visit in 2015. The current visit comes just months after Trump made a state visit to China in May.
The two heads of state delivered remarks at the White House welcome ceremony on Thursday.
Trump thanked Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, for the visit, describing it as historic.
"President Xi Jinping and I will continue to work together to build a better future for both of our countries. President Xi Jinping, Madame Peng, thank you again for this historic visit, and welcome to the United States of America," Trump said.
As reported by CCTV+, the welcome ceremony formed part of Xi Jinping's state visit to the United States and the leaders' program of meetings.
