National computing platform achieves nationwide resource monitoring in China

Computing power is becoming a new strategic resource on which the development of artificial intelligence, science and industry depends. When disparate data centres are united into a single network, a country can manage this resource as a single organism, coordinating plans and accelerating development.

This was officially announced at the opening ceremony of the China Computing Power Conference 2026 in Langfang, Hebei Province, northern China, on Saturday. The platform serves as a national integrated service centre for computing resources. It currently has more than 10,000 registered corporate users, contains information on more than 2,000 high-quality computing products, and has accumulated billions of records of computing power transactions. All 31 provincial-level regions of mainland China are connected to the platform, enabling authorities to clearly display the national computing base, track trends in real time and monitor operations across different regions.

"By the end of June this year, China's intelligent computing scale reached 2,185 EFLOPS (exaflops of floating-point operations per second), up 177 percent year-on-year. More than 70 backbone communication channels connecting national computing centres and key regions have been built, significantly improving the coordination of computing networks," said Zhong Zhihong, chief engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

"The integration of computing networks continues to deepen. At the initial stage, a three-tier computing network with latency rings of '1-5-20 milliseconds' has been formed, continuously strengthening the foundation for inter-regional scheduling," said He Baohong, chief engineer of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

While terrestrial computing is expanding rapidly, China is also looking to space. At the conference, industry representatives launched an initiative to create the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei space computing industrial corridor and began a project to build an integrated network of intelligent computing in the space and ground domains.

"Progress has been made in the development of reusable rockets, radiation-hardened chips and on-orbit data processing. An innovation ecosystem combining aerospace informatics and computing power is forming faster," said Li Yantao, deputy director of the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Bureau.

Industry observers note that the drive to create integrated space and ground infrastructure, from the development of domestic computing power to high-speed connection of computing networks, opens up new opportunities across the entire value chain.

"Thanks to the development of artificial intelligence infrastructure, our solutions in optical transmission, optical components and integrated solutions have significantly improved. In the first half of this year, sales revenue amounted to almost 10 billion yuan," said Zheng Xin, vice president of Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable.

As reported by CCTV+, the achievement of integrated nationwide monitoring of computing resources and the launch of space computing initiatives indicate that China is consistently building a unified computing infrastructure that combines ground and space segments. This creates a foundation for accelerated development of artificial intelligence and strengthens the country's position in the global technological race.
