A foreign-built cargo ship caught fire at a shipyard in Qingdao on Thursday, killing 25 people

According to the municipal fire and rescue department, the fire broke out at about 11:15 when the vessel was undergoing maintenance at the shipyard of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation's Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. There were 42 people on board. Twelve were safely evacuated, and five injured were taken to hospital, where their condition is stable. The fire was extinguished at about 14:30.
After the incident, emergency response, fire, police and medical services were immediately mobilised for search and rescue operations.
As reported by CCTV+, local authorities have confirmed the death toll and are continuing to establish the circumstances of the incident. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and experts note that this incident once again highlights the importance of strict adherence to safety standards at shipbuilding enterprises.
