Battery conference opens in Yibin
On Thursday, the 2026 World Battery Conference opened in Yibin, a city in Sichuan Province in southwestern China, bringing together global industry leaders to discuss technological innovation, industrial integration and international cooperation in the battery sector. The event, held under the theme "Power for All, Synergy for Growth", attracted more than 800 participants from 18 countries. The two‑day programme includes plenary sessions, thematic meetings and extensive exhibitions focused on industrial integration and international cooperation in the battery sector. This year's guest of honour was Spain.
Speaking at the event, Spanish Ambassador to China Marta Betanzos Roig said that her country hopes to become an industrial and technological partner for Chinese companies in their expansion in Europe. "Spain hopes to be not just a market for Chinese companies. We want to be an industrial and technological partner and help them expand their presence in Europe. At the same time, we hope that Spanish companies can find partners in China to realise opportunities in innovation, production and business development, and that Spain can turn this goal into contacts, projects, commitments and new enterprises through this conference," Roig said.
The conference also examines multi‑scenario applications of batteries to enhance integration with passenger vehicles, low‑altitude economy, embodied intelligence and other fields.
Yibin, located in southwestern China, has in recent years become a hub for the battery industry. It is home to lithium‑battery production facilities and research centres working on next‑generation energy storage solutions. China remains the world's largest producer and consumer of batteries, and the Yibin conference has become a key platform for experience exchange and contract signing. This year, Spain's role as guest of honour highlights the growing interest of European countries in cooperating with China on green technologies, particularly in the context of the European Green Deal and plans to develop local battery production.

Spain's participation as guest of honour opens new opportunities for Chinese companies planning to enter the European market.
