New group of Chinese experts arrives in Nepal to help identify victims of deadly landslide
On Thursday, a new group of Chinese experts arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal, to assist Nepalese authorities in identifying victims of the deadly landslide that struck the China-Nepal border on 26 August. A Y‑20 transport aircraft carrying the experts landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

"Ten Chinese experts, including specialists in DNA analysis, forensic science and fingerprint identification, were urgently dispatched on Thursday. Under the instruction of the Ministry of Public Security, we have arrived in Nepal on behalf of China to assist in victim identification," said Qi Yu, a Chinese expert. The aircraft also delivered a new shipment of essential supplies donated by China. The cargo includes mortuary freezers, epidemic prevention materials, daily necessities and other items urgently needed in Nepal. The shipment also includes temporary bridges for disaster relief, with bridge assembly equipment delivered separately by road to the China-Nepal border port.
On Thursday, Nepal's Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal thanked China for its disaster relief assistance during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maomin. He stated that Nepal sincerely appreciates China's generous support during this crisis. According to Nepal Police, as of Thursday evening, the death toll from the landslide in Nepal had risen to 1,290.
The landslide on the China-Nepal border occurred on 26 August, triggering powerful debris flows that blocked roads, destroyed infrastructure and claimed more than a thousand lives. Nepalese authorities declared a state of emergency and appealed for international assistance. China responded swiftly: first sending rescuers and tunnel specialists, then humanitarian supplies, and now experts for victim identification. The Y‑20 transport aircraft arriving in Kathmandu delivered not only specialists but also essential equipment, including mortuary freezers and temporary bridges. These bridges will help restore access to cut‑off areas where search operations continue.
